I have broken our summer trip up into 3 posts and tried to limit photos...let's be honest, there are still a LOT but it was the best I could do!! I am so excited to share them all with you!
We set out a couple of weeks ago on the open road with ourselves, an incredibly reasonable amount of luggage (...sort of...), and a lot of snacks and toys to entertain E in the car! We we were pretty nervous because our boy isn't the best car rider ever...and by that, I mean we have gone multiple full 6 hour road days without a single nap. He just doesn't sleep anywhere other than his crib (though we are so pleased that he sleeps well here!). But the travel gods were smiling on us, and for the 2 days of drives, Elijah did nap a bit each day, making the whole thing not too bad! Multiple polar pops (coke for me of course!) later, we survived the trip. :-)
We thoroughly enjoyed all of the sites on our northern route. Indiana and Ohio are pretty similar to Illinois, though quite a bit more wooded, which is pretty, but West Virginia and PA are absolutely lovely! We stopped east of Cleveland for the first night, where we got out a lot of energy playing Elijah's favorite game of "crawl quickly to the edge of the big bed until someone catches me and pulls be back and we all giggle!". It doesn't sound very safe, does it?! No worries, we are very attentive. He gets so much delight over the extra space of a king size bed!
The following day took us all the way to DC where we got settled in our house, got some groceries to save money from eating out for the week, and got some rest. On our first full day, we checked out one of the Smithsonian branches in the afternoon, with a long visit to the Newsuem in the morning. If you ever are in DC, this is a must see- it is an incredible museum focusing on the major newstories of America (with special exhibits on major stories of the past 50 or so years)- it was incredible and poignant. I have already written way too much already for this entry-so enjoy the pictures!!
A little car documentation...to the right, E and I are outside a PA McDonalds. Beautiful!
First of many Metro rides...he LOVED it, but as you can see by the wide eyes, it was quite a surprise for him!
Newsuem- a portion of the Berlin wall and one of the watchtowers.
There is a lovely balcony area from the top floor with a great view of the Capitol on the distance.
My boy LOVES screens/technology items, and was thrilled to play with these WAY-larger-than-him touch screens!
He's my boy :)
We are very classy....truth be told, we had a VERY hard time getting him to drink milk on the trip, but his new-found adoration of straws helped a lot- so this worked for that evening!
