"...It's not really about messes at all, but the stories they tell. It's about traces of childhood I see throughout my home on a daily basis. It's about the love we share together. It's about living and being...creating, making, learning and trying. This project leaves me a beautiful story each month of the reminders that Kids are here now...and the time, well, it's all too fleeting, isn't it? We all need to embrace these moments and just live them too; because they really are the best moments of life."

This is our final month of posting this project. Every month, my sweet boy and I make more messes that are really the product of playing together, and experiencing new things together...this project definitely marks a year of major development for us! If you missed April's circle, you can view it here.
I am hopeful that as we move on to a different story to tell, I remember this one and continue to occasionally document the messes E (and his sister in 8 short weeks!) make. It has been so fun to capture them!
These first 2 images mark a big development for us that will help us move to a big boy bed when the baby comes...E is now ok with other animals/blankets/etc sleeping in his crib! For a year and a half, it was only him and his lovies...nothing else. Now, he throws blankets and stuffed animals in and produces a loud snore- his way of saying they are sleeping with him!

And I must end with his beloved vehicles!!

I am so excited to bring the 5th edition of "The Kids Were Here", a project that a group of Springfield Photographer friends and I are doing as a blog circle this year. If you missed last month, you can view it here.
I love this quote about the project from one of the original photographers, and think it perfectly describes what we are doing here!

I have shown one like this before with a doll, but I just love how our boy places his current favorite toy in the shopping cart seat of honor:
(monkeys are his FAVORITE currently, and Halloween will show that!)
Another recent favorite toy:

Loved this lone car left in the rain!

And finally- I have never seen my sweet boy more excited about a toy than when he first saw these dominoes from his nana...he thinks they are just the best to throw all over the place, sort, and move!

We spent a full day and a half, and 1 evening of our trip viewing the memorials and monuments. We began on a walking tour, but Elijah wasn't digging the stopping and listening portions of the tour (good sign for the future, huh? ;-)), so out of respect for the other tour-goers, we decided to break apart and see the sites on our own. With the exception of the newer World War II and MLK memorials, we had both seen them all already- but I admit, it was really fun to see them with each other, and with our boy! He won't remember these adventures, but Michael and I both get so excited about all of the pictures we will be able to show him when he gets older of the places he has been with us! While I loved everything we saw, my favorite parts of the day that it was a beautiful 70 degrees out, watching Elijah's glee at walking up the 98 steps of the Lincoln Memorial, and seeing the FDR and MLK memorials by sunset- truly a lovely experience! We look forward to going back when Elijah is older and doing a night tour of everything as well!
Enjoy!

I sometimes wonder if the construction on the Washington Monument will ever be done!

This began our sunset tour. The FDR was extra nostalgic for me because I have pictures as both an 11 year old and a 14 year old in front of these waterfalls with dear friends from home while on band trips.

I truly loved the Martin Luther King JR memorial-it was so moving. My favorite part is that this carved statue of MLK is huge, and literally watching over the water on the town of DC, in hope and protection of a future that doesn't repeat his past. I wonder how he would think we are all doing.

Loved these photos my Michael captured, with a little flare! Photographer in the making, I tell you!

We admit, below might be the WORST picture ever taken of us, ever. But it was 1 of 2 we got taken of all of us on the trip, so I am posting it anyways, to remember!
